Alex Close

VISUAL ARTIST | CHENGDU, CHINA

Alex Close is a Canadian visual artist and educator based in Chengdu, China. Working primarily with painting, she creates abstract works that investigate perception, image consumption, and the construction of memory in both physical and digital spaces. Her practice reflects on the interplay between movement, attention, and the influence of virtual and large-scale mechanical environments.

As an educator at the College of Chinese and ASEAN Arts, Chengdu University, Alex fosters visual literacy and experimental approaches to contemporary art. Her work, informed by experiences in digital collaboration, international residencies, and research into perceptual distortions, explores the tension between image, space, and materiality.

Alex’s paintings have been exhibited internationally, including at the Robert McLaughlin Gallery (Canada), the Muzychi Expanded History Project (Ukraine), and the Narva Art Residency (Estonia). She holds a BFA from OCAD University (2015), an MLitt from the Glasgow School of Art (2017), and an MDes from Carleton University (2020).
