Dan Zhao
PHOTOGRAPHER | QUANZHOU, CHINA
Dan Zhao (b.2000, China) is a contemporary artist-curator specialising in visual arts. She graduated with an MA in Photography from the London College of Communication, University of the Arts London, in 2023.
Her works are mostly based on her own introspection, weaving together literature, sociology, philosophy, and Buddhism to delve into deeper societal meanings. “Concept”, “Poetics” and “Stream of Consciousness” are the characteristics of her artistic creations. The texture-rich yard of her childhood has given her a long-lasting influence, contributing to her desire to explore new stimuli and her dedication to researching and collecting various materials from around the world. As a result, she is focused on multi-sensory expression and accurately presents the vitality of her works through handmade techniques. Seeking concreteness, the elegance of her fabrics reflects and gives form to the deepest essence of her personality.
Zhao's works were presented at London College of Communication in 2023 and selected for the online showcase “Beyond the Image” curated by Photo London in 2024-25. Her contributions as curator include “Within Bound” at Copeland Gallery (London) and “Unbounded” at Three Shadows Xiamen Photography Art Centre (China).
