JIALIN YAN

Jialin Yan (b. 1992, Fuzhou) is a photographer based between London and Shanghai, currently pursuing an MA in Photography at the Royal College of Art. Her work explores the fragility of memory and collective emotion, tracing how remembrance fades and transforms over time. Blending documentary and conceptual approaches, she uses light, layering, and spatial tension to evoke absence and emotional residue.

Yan’s images navigate the boundary between the real and the imagined, reinterpreting memory as a shifting landscape of loss, distance, and reflection. Her practice has been internationally recognized—she was a finalist for the Female Documentary Photography Foundation Award (2023) and shortlisted for the LensCulture Critics’ Choice Awards (2022). Her work has appeared in the British Journal of Photography, FT Weekend, HUCK, and LIFE Magazine, and exhibited in New York, Rome, and Tokyo. She has also collaborated with brands such as CHANEL, GIADA, Adidas, and Tencent Video.
