Jose Salazar

PAINTER | LIMA, PERU

Jose Salazar (b.2001, Perù) live and work in Lima. They are a visual artist currently specializing in Painting at the National Autonomous University of Fine Arts of Peru (UNABAP).

Their artistic practice is grounded in theoretical archeology that selects, disaggregates, and appropriates concepts, transforming their representations to question the ideological structures of the present. Motivated by their interest in the intersection of art and theory, Salazar explore images and texts as artificial forms that both conceal and reflect social and cultural structures.

They presented their first solo exhibition, "Always Subjected”, curated by Marisabel Arias at Ekumen, Lima (2024), and have showcased their work in various cultural spaces and galleries in the same city. Salazar is currently an assistant curator at Ekumen, an off-space dedicated to amplifying the voices of emerging contemporary artists in Lima.
